Study Area:

The “Drone Survey of Chumchet Syar Khola Hydropower Project” was conducted in Chumbi Numbri Rural Municipality, located in Gorkha District, a region known for its mountainous terrain and rugged landscape. The area encompasses a range of geographical features, including steep slopes, river valleys, and dense vegetation, all of which present both challenges and opportunities for hydropower development.

Gorkha District, with its varied topography, requires detailed and accurate mapping to facilitate effective planning and implementation of hydropower projects. The Chumchet Syar Khola site is characterized by its remote and rugged environment, which makes traditional surveying methods less practical. Therefore, the use of drone technology was essential for capturing high-resolution data across the challenging terrain.

 Project Objectives:

– DGPS Data Collection: Gather precise geospatial data using Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) technology to establish control points for the survey. This data is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of subsequent drone imagery.

– Drone Image Acquisition: Utilize drone technology to capture high-resolution images and data of the project site. The drones provided detailed aerial perspectives necessary for creating accurate models and maps.

– Data Processing: Process both DGPS and drone data to generate various deliverables, including Digital Elevation Models (DEM), Digital Surface Models (DSM), Contour Maps, and Orthophotos. The processing of these datasets was essential for comprehensive analysis and project planning.

 Deliverables:

– Ortho Photos: High-resolution orthophotos were produced to provide detailed and accurate visual representation of the survey area. These images are critical for visual inspections and project assessments.

– Contour Maps: Contour maps displayed the elevation changes across the site, helping in understanding the topography and planning for construction activities.

– Digital Surface Models (DSM): DSMs offered a 3D view of the terrain, including all surface features such as vegetation and structures. This model was used for assessing the landscape and understanding the project’s impact.

– Digital Terrain Models (DTM): DTMs represented the bare-earth surface by excluding vegetation and man-made structures. This model is vital for hydrological analysis and infrastructure design.

– Topographical Maps: Comprehensive topographical maps integrated all the data sets, providing a detailed overview of the terrain. These maps were essential for effective project planning and management, ensuring alignment with the natural landscape and supporting decision-making processes.
