Study Area:

The “RTK-Enabled Drone Survey and Data Processing of ArunHub Transmission Line Project (TL2)” was carried out in the Okhaldhunga and Solukhumbu districts of Nepal. This region is characterized by its rugged mountainous terrain, which includes steep slopes, varied elevations, and challenging landscape features. The area’s complex geography poses significant challenges for traditional survey methods, making it an ideal candidate for advanced drone technology.

The transmission line project spans a diverse landscape, necessitating accurate and detailed topographic data to ensure effective planning and implementation. The use of RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) enabled drones provided high-precision data crucial for aligning the transmission line infrastructure with the natural terrain.

 Project Objectives:

– DGPS Data Collection: Deploy Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) technology to collect precise geospatial data. This step established control points essential for the accuracy of the drone survey and subsequent data processing.

– Drone Image Acquisition: Use RTK-enabled drones to capture high-resolution aerial images and data of the project area. The RTK capability ensured enhanced accuracy and precision in the captured data, addressing the challenges posed by the region’s topography.

– Data Processing: Process the DGPS and drone data to generate key deliverables, including Digital Elevation Models (DEM), Digital Surface Models (DSM), Contour Maps, and Orthophotos. This processing was critical for creating accurate and detailed representations of the terrain.

 Deliverables:

– Ortho Photos: High-resolution orthophotos provided a detailed visual representation of the survey area, essential for analysis and decision-making related to the transmission line project.

– Contour Maps: Contour maps illustrated elevation changes across the project area, helping to understand the terrain and plan the placement of the transmission line infrastructure.

– Digital Surface Models (DSM): DSMs offered a 3D view of the terrain, including all surface features such as vegetation and structures. This model was crucial for assessing the landscape and planning the project.

– Digital Terrain Models (DTM): DTMs represented the bare-earth surface, excluding vegetation and man-made features. This model facilitated hydrological analysis and infrastructure design.

– Topographical Maps: Comprehensive topographical maps integrated all data sets, providing an in-depth view of the terrain. These maps were vital for effective project planning and management, ensuring the transmission line’s alignment with the natural landscape.

The RTK-enabled drone survey for the ArunHub Transmission Line Project (TL2) provided ElectroConsultant with high-precision data and detailed insights into the terrain, supporting efficient planning and implementation of the transmission line infrastructure in the challenging topography of Okhaldhunga and Solukhumbu.
