Study Area:

The 3D Modelling of Krishna Mandir project was carried out in Lalitpur, a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage and ancient temples. Krishna mandir, a significant historical and religious structure in the area, was chosen for this project due to its intricate architectural details and cultural importance. The project aimed to demonstrate how Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) can be effectively utilized for the preservation and documentation of cultural heritage sites.

Given the architectural complexity of Krishna mandir, traditional methods of documentation could not fully capture the detailed carvings and structure. TLS technology was employed to create a precise and detailed 3D model, providing a digital preservation of the temple for future reference and conservation efforts.

Project Objectives:

Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS): The primary objective was to use TLS technology to capture high-resolution 3D point cloud data of Krishna Mandir. This data would be instrumental in generating an accurate 3D model of the temple, preserving its intricate details and overall structure.

Cultural Heritage Preservation: The project focused on showcasing how TLS can be utilized for the preservation of cultural heritage sites. The 3D model serves as a digital archive, ensuring that the temple’s details are well-preserved for future restoration or academic study.

Collaboration with Khopa Engineering College: This project was conducted as a demonstration for Khopa Engineering College, helping to educate students and faculty on the practical applications of TLS in the field of cultural heritage conservation.

Deliverables:

3D Point Cloud Data: A detailed 3D point cloud of Krishna mandir was generated using TLS. This data captured the temple’s intricate architectural details, including carvings and structural elements.

3D Model of Krishna Mandir: The point cloud data was processed into a high-precision 3D model, providing an accurate representation of the temple’s architecture. This model can be used for further academic studies, restoration projects, or virtual tours.

Cultural Heritage Documentation: The final deliverable included comprehensive documentation of the temple’s structure, which can be used for preservation efforts or as an educational tool in the study of heritage conservation.
